Tall Fashion: Owning Your Height with Style

At 6'9, I’ve navigated the ups and downs of being tall my whole life—starting on the basketball courts in the Netherlands, moving to the U.S., and now running TFT Designs in California. Back in the day, finding clothes that fit was a battle, with sleeves ending at my elbows and pants riding up my shins. That struggle pushed me to start TFT Designs, where we make dress shirts for tall, slim dudes who don’t fit the usual big and tall mold, no tailor needed with our perfect fits. I’m diving into the world of tall fashion, sharing what I’ve learned about dressing to own your height, based on my journey and chats with other tall guys.

Colors and Patterns That Pop

Tall guys can rock bold colors and patterns, but it’s about picking the right ones. I’ve always loved a sharp white shirt for its clean look, but adding a subtle check or stripe like the light blue ones in our TFT line adds personality without overwhelming. Darker shades, like navy or charcoal, work great too, slimming down the silhouette. I once tried a bright red shirt for a casual outing, and while it got attention, it taught me to keep bold hues for accessories or accents. The key is confidence, wear what feels good and suits your vibe.

Footwear That Complements

Shoes matter more than you’d think in tall fashion. With my size 15 feet, I’ve learned to go for sleek dress shoes or stylish sneakers that don’t add bulk. A pair of leather loafers can elevate a tall frame, keeping the line clean from head to toe. I avoid chunky boots unless I’m hiking, they can make legs look shorter. Finding the right fit took trial and error, but now I pair my TFT shirts with shoes that tie the whole look together, making my height work for me.

Layering for All Seasons

Layering is a tall guy’s best friend, especially with our long torsos. I love throwing a vest over a dress shirt in cooler months, it adds depth without drowning me. In summer, a lightweight linen jacket over a short-sleeve shirt keeps it breezy yet sharp. Last week, I layered a gray vest for a client meeting, and it balanced my frame perfectly. The trick is keeping layers fitted, loose ones can make you look swallowed up. It’s about playing with texture and fit to highlight your height.

Everyday Confidence

Tall fashion isn’t just for special occasions.. it’s for every day. Since starting TFT Designs, I wear my tall shirts to meetings, dinners, or even coffee runs. They’re versatile, and that fit reminds me to own my height. A friend once said it’s like wearing my confidence, and I agree. Whether it’s a suit for a wedding or jeans with a shirt for a casual day, the right clothes let tall guys like me move freely and feel good.
